Secrets by Claire Thompson

Secrets by Claire Thompson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Writing: ★★★★★
Story: ★★★
Characters: ★★★★
Overall rating: 4.0

Claire Thompson is a favorite author of mine, I've read several of her books, so I was excited to see a new book by her.

This was a sweet, fast paced read. At times almost a little *too* sweet, and a little *too* convenient. But, for the most part, I did enjoy the love story of Dominant Liam and submissive Allie. I enjoyed the fact that their meeting seemed real, that their connection grew until they finally met. They were well suited characters for each other.

The sex scenes in this book were pretty well played out, including the *GASP* water torture scene. Had me feeling panicky just reading about it.

I feel "most" of the scenes were realistic, and sexy hot! There were times that I felt the author tried to put as many BDSM scene plays into the book as she could think of. After a while, it started to become predictable. Not every touch, or every kiss, needs to turn into "up against the wall. And fuck in 3, 2, 1."

I have to admit, there were times when I thought Liam was a jerk. I understand the pushing of limits, and I understand why he did so at times... but to me, he just sounded... "jerkish".

So overall, yes, I liked the book. And I really enjoyed meeting so many of the other characters. The all had a place in the story, they made sense, and even though there were quite a few of them, I felt like I knew them all by the time I finished the book. I'm hoping to see more of them if there are going to be other books in this series.

Red Dog: An Evil Dead MC Story by Nicole James

Red Dog: An Evil Dead MC Story by Nicole  James
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Writing: ★★★★★
Story: ★★★★
Characters: ★★★★

Overall rating: 4.3

This was a quick hot read with my morning coffee. I enjoyed seeing Red Dog again, and meeting Mary, his little China Doll.

This novella was just what I needed after the book hangover(s) I had from the previous books in this series. Getting to see Crash, Wolf, Cole, and an "Ol' Lady" thrown in the mix, was just what I needed to keep me connected to the series.

Red Dog and Mary, have had a lot of "ups" and quite a few "downs" during their relationship. But they've always been able to work through it.. until now.

Mary is pissed, and Red Dog is stumped as to *why* that is this time. She's up and left, took all of her stuff, and their son, and just left. He doesn't even know where to begin to look for them.

We see a lot of flashbacks to how Red Dog and Mary first met, the ups and downs in their tumultuous relationship. But in all the years, we've never seen Mary leave and just "be done" with Red Dog.

Can he get her back, or has he fucked up one too many times for Mary to even consider it this time?

Grab a cup of your favorite beverage, curl up with your e-reader, and step back into the world of The Evil Dead, and find out for yourself.

I sure hope that Nicole James has more books planned for this series! I love me some Evil Dead!!

*****5 "I love you enough to put you on the back of my bike and keep you there for good." Stars*****

Okay. Just. Wow. What a wild ride! I have to say that from book 1, Kick, to this book, the author's writing style grew by leaps and bounds. This book kept me on the edge of my seat, gripping my Kindle, and more than once whispering, "nooooo...!"
"I want her submission. I want her heart. I want her to look at me and not wish I were someone else. More than anything though, I want to rid her of the belief that to love is to hurt to feel pleasure is to hurt."
Tank - a.k.a. Death, a.k.a. Jonah Whitecross, he's not your typical biker that you read about in most MC books. Even though he's a killer, and has no qualms about it. He can be demanding, overbearing, a complete "arsehole" at times... but he can also be gentle, caring, and loving, much to Ivy's surprise and dismay.

Ivy - club whore, junkie, lost girl... victim. And she wants nothing to do with that caring and loving side of Tank. Ivy needs to be abused to "feel"... well anything. She doesn't do "pleasure".

Tank is going to try and show her just how wrong she is on that front. And he does it damn well, too!
Tank has been in love with Ivy since he first met her, but Ivy's not in love with Tank, far from it, and to make matter's worse, he's taken her to his cabin and "held her prisoner"... her words, not his. He's taken her away from the club, away from Kick, and away from any way to get her drugs. He wants to help her get clean and she doesn't want any part of Tank's help.

But she's going to get it, whether she likes it or not!

A Gift of Time by Beth Flynn

A Gift of Time (Nine Minutes, #3)A Gift of Time by Beth Flynn

"Two rings. One of ink and one of gold."
This series, seriously in my top 5 favorite! From book 1 and 2, to this long awaited (for me) finale, I've been in love with this story, these characters, and this author for writing this series.

This books picks right up where the second book ended. So we know that Grizz is alive. But how will Ginny react to this news since she's married to Tommy now? How will she tell Tommy? *WHAT* will she tell Tommy?

No quick answers in this book. We are taken back in time, and into the "present", by Ginny, Tommy, Mimi, and Grizz, as the story is told from different POVs. Usually this is a hard thing for an author to pull off, but Beth Flynn makes it look easy. The storyline is seamless.
I was excited to learn all the secrets, and at the same time I didn't want it to end.

I love Ginny with Tommy and I love Ginny with Grizz. To have one soulmate in one's lifetime is miraculous, but Ginny had two.
There were some great openings for spinoff series', and I'm hoping we'll see more of Mimi and Christian at some point. Seems they could have a love like dear old mom and dad!
And by the way.... Grizz?

*****5 Creepy Jimmy Stars!*****

First of all I want to mention the cover of this book. It's the perfect rendition of what, in my mind, Emily looks like, and it really helped me to envision her throughout the book. Well done!

Darkness Follows picks up right where Darkness Lurks leaves off. Emily has been taken by Jimmy Lasko and he's got her gagged and ziptied to an old wooden chair. Emily is, naturally, frightened and is trying to calm herself when the door opens and a masked man walks in. But worse than that, there's a computer in the room, and it's broadcasting directly to Seth and the OPD. Seth and his co-workers can see and hear everything that is happening to Emily.

Seth is beside himself, and he blames himself for Emily getting kidnapped. If only he hadn't allowed himself to get to close. If only, if only, if only..

Days and days pass before Emily finally gets the chance to escape, and she takes full advantage of it. All she wants, all she thinks about, is getting back to Seth and his loving and protective arms.

*SCREEEEECH*

Not so fast, Emily. She gets back only to find that once again, Seth has pulled away. He's pulling the, "I need some space" card, and it makes me want to throttle him. He feels that if he hadn't let himself get too close, then he could have protected Emily better by not being distracted.

Emily during this time, kinda goes off the rails. She won't listen to common sense, she won't *use* common sense. Even goes so far as taking a mini-vacay at a spa.

Seriously, Emily? I found her to be very selfish and dangerous, and I worried that that combination was going to cause someone that she cares about to get hurt, or worse, killed.

Jimmy's creep factor is amped up in this book, just when you thought he couldn't get any more creepy, he does.

I can't go into too much about him in this review, there's just no way to do so and not spoil something for others. So i'll just leave it that you should definitely read with the lights on and the doors locked!

This book had me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails, and growling at Emily and Seth in frustration. But I wouldn't change a thing... well except for Emily's "brave side"... that got to be pretty annoying in the book, a bit overused. Other than that tiny little detail this book was over the top brilliant!

Oh, and the ending! I did NOT see that coming! Mind was officially blown!

This book, like book one, ends in a MAJOR cliffhanger. But, book 3, Darkness Falls, comes out on October 13, 2015! I'm hope this will wrap up this series, because...

*****5 SHOCKED STARS*****
*GASP*

J.L. Drake is a "new to me" author, and I absolutely LOVED her writing style, the way she told this story. I could picture everything as it happened, I could hear the character's voices, I felt like I *knew* these characters. This was a real page turner for me! Couldn't get enough!

This book was dark and creepy, intense and suspenseful and I couldn't get enough!

Emily McPhee, there were moments in this book that I really just wanted to smack her and wake her the hell up. She just didn't listen or use common sense half the time. She is like the idiot girl that runs into the old abandoned barn on a dark rainy night, tripping and falling all the way, only to run right into the arms of the guy with the chainsaw. But she was loveably (yes, I'm making that a word!) clueless, and totally in love with Seth Connors.

Seth Connors, ahhhh, Seth, I really enjoyed this character, although, at times I felt like he listened to too many outside influences instead of his own head. Seth has been on the police force for a couple of years, he takes his job very seriously, and because of that, he tries to keep his feelings for Emily purely in the friend zone.

Jimmy Lasko, this guy was a Grade A, Class One, psychopath. One of the scariest and most disturbed I've read about. He's sick and twisted and Ms. Drake writes his character so well and so believable that I actually sit up and take notice of things that go bump in the night!

Jimmy is obsessed with Emily. Over the top, creep factor to the inth degree! He wants her, and he means to have her. He stalks her constantly. It's his stalking that alerts Emily to something not being right when she starts hearing noises in her house.

Seth, who lives next door, encourages Emily to get a roommate, someone to be an extra set of eyes and ears and hopefully a deterrent to anyone meaning to do her any harm.

She does interview a few people, but in her heart, she know that Seth would be the perfect roommate, and wouldn't that just be handy to have him living in the same house with her, even if he did only want to be friends!

But Seth does want more, he's also in love with Emily, but the protector in him, not to mention those pesky outside influences, knows that in order to keep her safe, he has to keep her at arm's length.

There are a whole host of characters in this book that fill in the story so perfectly. Everyone has a place, characters aren't just there to fluff things up.

Warning, this book ends in a cliffhanger, so have the second book, Darkness Follows, on hand to continue this brilliant series! I've definitely found a new author to love... and stalk for more books!

Review: Beneath The Burn by Pam Godwin

Beneath the BurnBeneath the Burn by Pam Godwin

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Overall rating: 4.0

4 "Burn for me, baby" Stars
This was my first book by Pam Goodwin, and it won't be my last. This book was great! Lots of twists and turns, and some darkness and hotness... what more could a new fan ask for?

"You build me up and turn me inside out. I've never felt so defenseless and yet...so daring at the same time."
This is the story of Charlee, a girl on the run from a black and dangerous past, and Jay Mayard a rising star star in the music world. And Roy, the man that can bring about destruction to both of them.

Jay first meets Charlee when he goes into a tattoo parlor to get a tat to cover the scars on his back. The scars are horrific and he just wants them blacked out. Charlee sees beauty and strength in the scars and she decides to bring the strength out in Jay. Problem is, Jay can't stand to be touched. At. All. Charlee does her best to put a tat on a guy that doesn't want what she's imagining, and doesn't want to be touched.

She only gets part of the tat done that night, but it's enough for Jay to know he wants her to complete it.. problem is, Charlee has disappeared. Vanished.

Enter Roy. This man is horrible, mean, cruel, and Charlee belongs to him. Has for years. And will for many more. Eight more to be exact before she is able to slip out of his clutches again.

Charlee and Jay's journey is a rocky one. But there is one thing they have in common... they love each other, and will do anything for each other.

This book gripped my heart in all the right places and twisted me up with fear for the MCs. It's a ride I won't soon forget!

Some of the fun parts of the books was the whole new vocabulary of words and one liners I picked up from Jay and his rock star band! If only I could find a way to weave some of these into my daily conversations!
Cockblockalypse
Blue ovaries frustrated
Rockognition
Go eat a dick
fucktillion
fuckateria
grape-smugglers
rockstrap
prickadonna
I have to say this author has a great imagination, and the words actually make sense in their context!

I really enjoyed this read and I'll be looking up Pam Goodwin for more!!

Review: Third Debt (Indebted Book 4) by Pepper Winters

Third Debt (Indebted Book 4)Third Debt by Pepper Winters

5 *Heart Stopping* Stars

"She healed me. She broke me. I set her free. But we are in this together. We will end this together. The rules of this ancient game can’t be broken.”

Third Debt starts off with Nila back home with her family, but she's missing Jethro and has decided that she can't live without him. She knows she can help him, she knows she can get him to choose her. But before she has the chance to run back to him, he comes for her, and much like the first time, not all is what it seems to the prying eyes of the public or her family.

However, the Jethro that comes to claim her to take her back to Hawksridge is only bringing her back with one goal in mind. The Third Debt. He is much like the Jethro she first met in Milan. Distant and cruel and as cold as the bottom of an iceberg in the Arctic.

Jethro has put the ice walls back up around his heart, thanks to a new and powerful drug that has proven quite well in helping his "condition". He feels nothing, he doesn't care about anything or anyone, doesn't even take his precious Wing out for riding or playing Polo anymore. He doesn't have time for all of that. He's fully ensconced in the business now, and has no need for anything, especially the "Weaver Whore". He wants the Debts done so he can move on to his 30th birthday and inherit it all.

Having Nila back, along with his new miracle drug, it should be easy to ignore her except only when necessary. But, this is Nila and Jethro, and it becomes a matter of who is really going to save who.

The sex between Jethro and Nila is beyond hot and only gets hotter! Ms. Winters knows how to build sex into a story without letting it take over and *become* the story. It's well placed and well timed. Not an easy thing to do in this genre.

There is a lot that goes on in this book, lots of dark and twisty turns. My heart started with a little crack throughout the last 3 books in this series to finally shatter to pieces by the end of this one.

Oh we can't forget about Nila's "core", now can we?! As with my last couple of reviews with this series, I've shown how talented her "core" is.. this review will be no exception! Although her "core" wasn't as busy this time around, but it did do some neat tricks!

Lets see her core clenched while feeding off of his power, her skin hummed and prickled, her blood raced, her lips melted and... her core clenched each and every time. Her core clenched from his words, his power, it got wet from sheer deliciousness, and it clenched from the longing on Jethro's face. And when her core clenched, sparkes detonated in her blood! Damn!

Her core burned, prickling sensitivity darted and centered in her core, motorcycle regalia did terrible things to her core, and a blistering wave of need spread from her core.

Her core contracted again and again, with heaven shooting through her system. Heaven I tell you!

And finally her core exposed itself. Shameless, slutty little core!

Oh and lets not forget she also has talented nipples. They harden into rocks, they pebble, and peak.

They're dark, they get teased, tweaked, tugged, they freeze, and they throb with the swift burn of intoxicating pain.
It's going to be a looooong wait for August! Hopefully, we won't have to wait too long after that for the final installment. I'm looking forward to every core clenching, nipple hardening, dark, mind fucking page of it too!

**Don't take my bashing of Nila's core, or her nipples, to heart, (I hear she secretly likes it!), because I love this series and looking forward to more of Nila, Jethro, Kestrel, Jaz, Vaughn, both daddys and even Daniel the most screwed up little brother in history... oh and yes, even Nila's core!
