My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blurb

How can you refuse when a dying friend asks you for the biggest favor of all? Kaden and Seth have been best friends for over forty years. So when Kaden confesses not only that he’s dying, but that he wants Seth to take over as his wife’s Dom in their BDSM relationship, it rocks his world.

Seth has always seen himself as the perpetual screw-up and Kaden as the strong and steady one. To find out he is the only one Kaden trusts to protect and care for his wife, Leah, is a shock.

Now Seth finds himself immersed in a role he’s far from comfortable with—inflicting pain to provide emotional comfort for the woman he’s secretly loved for years. Can he deal with his crushing grief and learn the skills he must master in time to become THE RELUCTANT DOM?

Review

Going into this book, I had a few expectations from other reviews I'd read.  What I didn't expect was really how touching, and sad, this story was. I actually cried reading this book, it's happened before, but it's very rare.

Tymber Dalton takes the reader on a poignant, and at times, comical ride. The sense of balance between the two is perfect. She is right up front in the Author's Notes that while this is a fictional story, the portrayal of a 24/7 M/s relationship is accurate.

We start out meeting Kayden and Seth sitting in a bar, with Kayden telling Seth he is dying. They've known each other since they were babies and their moms were best friends, over 40 years ago. This sets the tone for the whole story. "Kayden's dying" becomes the "horrific heartbeat" in Seth's brain. I found myself hoping, against hope that some miracle would happen.

Kayden has been married to Leah for over 20 years. And while the 3 are best friends, Seth is unaware that Kayden and Leah are in a BDSM Master/slave relationship and have been all these years. Until tonight. Tonight the whole dynamic changes and they become a Master and a Slave. Two best friends. A woman and a man. A husband and a wife.

This story shows how these two very straight men can have a loving, caring, and respectful relationship, not only with each other with a woman they both love. These two kind, caring and, oh so funny, men have a running joke of "Dude, I am so not doing you", which comes a times when you least expect it, and reminds you of the fact that they are both straight and nothing is going to change that fact.

This book isn't about the lighter side of BDSM; it's into a lot of the heavier pain, and with good reason, which you'll have to read the book to find out!

Many secrets will come out, but will Seth be able to handle them?

  2. Thank you for your kind comment, Shirelle! This book really got to me. I'd seen it reviewed other places, but really didn't think it would be up my alley! Am I ever glad I invited this book to visit my alley! Warning, keep tissues handy! I'd love to know what you think of it if you give it a go.
