Review: Meet Me In The Dark by J.A. Huss

Meet Me in the DarkMeet Me in the Dark by J.A. Huss

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Writing: ★★★★
Story: ★★★★★
Characters: ★★★★

Overall rating: 4.3

On Christmas Eve, Merric Case, (Merc), freelance assassin, was sent to Wyoming to rescue 16 year old Sydney Channing, a US Senator's daughter, from a dangerous Militia group, but at the last minute, something changed, Merc made a choice of a new life and money, so he left Sydney in the hands of Garrett, a sociopath who turned her into his own personal mind controlled sexual slave for the first two years before disappearing and leaving her to run a bar he owned for the last six years.

Six years of living with that chilling promise that Merc made the night he left her begging him to rescue her. Living every day waiting for Merc to come back for her.
"I will come back for you, bitch. When you least expect it. When your life goes back to normal and all this is nothing but a nightmare. Just when you think it's over. I will come back for you. I own you." -- Merc
It's that threat that Sydney lives with, because Merric Case didn't strike her as a man who would go back on his word.
"He owned me, he said. His eyes are burned into my memory. Cold eyes. Dark eyes. The eyes of a killer who takes no prisoners and never forgets a debt." --Sydney
Merc does return, but not to kill her, not right away at least. He knows that Sydney has some important information, he needs to know where Garrett is and only Sydney can tell him that. And Merc will use all the tools available to him, sex and lies, even leading Sydney to believe his lies of love.

And from there it's one helluva ride!

I really enjoyed this book, it was the first I've read by JA Huss. It was dark and gritty, full of suspense and a real page turner for me!

Note: I understand there are other books by this author that Merc is mentioned in, but this isn't listed as a series book. It seemed, for the most part, like a stand alone, but there were times that names, (and circumstances), were mentioned that meant nothing to me since I hadn't read other books. It would be helpful if the other books were mentioned at the end of the book synopsis, giving the reader the choice of reading them or just sticking with this as a stand alone.

Fervent (Condemned, #3)Fervent by Gemma James

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Overall rating: 5.0

I read these 3 books back to back, lay one down, pick up the next. They were that good, and each book was darker than the last. And I do love dark reads!!

This book picks right up where Rampant left off, Raft and Alex have been kidnapped. They are in the trunk of a car. And that's all I can tell you about that without giving anything away.

This book was a MAJOR twist of the whole series. I didn't see all of it coming, and more than once an audible gasp escaped me along with a few, "What the Fucks". And that is what I loved. That it wasn't predictable, that it didn't even give me a chance to guess, cause the things that happened weren't even on my radar.

If you love dark erotica reads, this series will be right up your alley. The first book was so tame and mild compared to this third book, that at times it doesn't seem possible that it's all part of the same series! But you have to read this series as it's intended so you don't miss a thing!

Warning, all books end in major cliffhangers, including this one, and now I wish I would've waited to read it until the fourth book was out, (Vagrant comes out on August 18, 2015), but at the same time, I wouldn't trade a *second* of the ride so far!

Review: Faith by Terry Towers

FaithFaith by Terry Towers

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Overall rating: 4.3

To others our story would read as some insane horror story about a couple of disturbed and delusional people and not the love tale that it was, but that’s all right.
This book was quite a surprise, i've read Terry Tower's books before, and always enjoyed them. I didn't know about this one until it popped up on my Amazon as a recommended read. Thank you Amazon!

"There's something to be said about looking into the darkest depths of your partner's mind and, after having a glimpse behind the black curtain of their soul, still loving them despite it -- even because of it."
This book sucked me right in from the beginning, and while I felt that Tanner could have ended up as a stronger character I understood that sometimes love does conquer all. As it was in the case of this book.

It was a bit difficult to wrap my head around the Christian overtones in this book, with a dark erotica, but I do think that Ms. Towers pulled it all together nicely.

Emily was a pastor's daughter, and was raised by Proverbs 31 -- that she should be a woman of virtue and humility, eager to be a dutiful wife and mother. Meeting Tanner threw all those beliefs out the window. She was to be his slave and his whore. A role that was completely out of her element...but at the same time, there was something about it, with Tanner, that made her crave it.

Tanner starts out as a very dark character, but slowly, over time, he seems to sink into Emily's web instead of the other way around. No, he doesn't turn into a born again Christian, but he is able to give Emily what she needs and craves, even if Emily didn't know she wanted those things herself.

This book is dark, but there is a light, albeit dim, that starts to shine. For me this was a page turner. It was twisted with a lot of surprises. I love that in a book!!

Looking forward to reading more from this author in the future!

Review: Beneath The Burn by Pam Godwin

4 "Burn for me, baby" Stars
This was my first book by Pam Goodwin, and it won't be my last. This book was great! Lots of twists and turns, and some darkness and hotness... what more could a new fan ask for?

"You build me up and turn me inside out. I've never felt so defenseless and yet...so daring at the same time."
This is the story of Charlee, a girl on the run from a black and dangerous past, and Jay Mayard a rising star star in the music world. And Roy, the man that can bring about destruction to both of them.

Jay first meets Charlee when he goes into a tattoo parlor to get a tat to cover the scars on his back. The scars are horrific and he just wants them blacked out. Charlee sees beauty and strength in the scars and she decides to bring the strength out in Jay. Problem is, Jay can't stand to be touched. At. All. Charlee does her best to put a tat on a guy that doesn't want what she's imagining, and doesn't want to be touched.

She only gets part of the tat done that night, but it's enough for Jay to know he wants her to complete it.. problem is, Charlee has disappeared. Vanished.

Enter Roy. This man is horrible, mean, cruel, and Charlee belongs to him. Has for years. And will for many more. Eight more to be exact before she is able to slip out of his clutches again.

Charlee and Jay's journey is a rocky one. But there is one thing they have in common... they love each other, and will do anything for each other.

This book gripped my heart in all the right places and twisted me up with fear for the MCs. It's a ride I won't soon forget!

Some of the fun parts of the books was the whole new vocabulary of words and one liners I picked up from Jay and his rock star band! If only I could find a way to weave some of these into my daily conversations!
Cockblockalypse
Blue ovaries frustrated
Rockognition
Go eat a dick
fucktillion
fuckateria
grape-smugglers
rockstrap
prickadonna
I have to say this author has a great imagination, and the words actually make sense in their context!

I really enjoyed this read and I'll be looking up Pam Goodwin for more!!

Review: Rampant by Gemma James

Rampant (Condemned, #2)Rampant by Gemma James

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Overall rating: 4.3

What a twisted, fuck up, dark story... I loved it!
This book picks up right where book one ended, and the darkness level has definitely been turned WAY up in book 2 of this series!
"Rafe was dead. Last night I'd lived a dream, so vivid I could still feel him against me. But I'd never feel him again. Never hear his voice, his laughter. Never breathe in the musk of his skin, feel the sweat of his brow at my breasts. Never again lose my breath to the vice of his hands around my throat. I'd give anything to get that back, even if giving up control terrified me." - Alex
Alex thinks Rafe is dead, and she's being held prisoner by her step-brother, Zach, who fancies himself in love with little sister. Zach is so twisted, and Ms. James really knows how to get into the character's head, in turn getting the character into the reader's head.
"Nighttime always hit hard, when the dark wee hours of morning choked me with loneliness" - Alex
Zach drugs Alex with Ecstasy and rapes her, brutally, marking her body as his, and her only escape to to think of Rafe, which becomes her downfall.

But the major twist that shows up straight out of the gate is almost gut wrenching and the twists and turns don't stop there.. if you love dark reads this one will hold you captive, all the way to the cliffhanger ending! Better have book 3 locked and loaded in your e-reader.. trust me, as soon as you get to the last page of this one, you'll want to start the next one right away.

Wrong. Yes. But, OMG, I can't get enough!

Review: Hunted by L.J. Dee

Hunted (The Hunter Brothers #5)Hunted by L.J. Dee

5 "Hunt me baby!" Stars!

Hunted, book 5 and final book in this series was more than I could have even asked for.

In this book we hear from the brothers, Lucas, Roman, Charlie and Tyler. Roman has arranged some "family time" for the brothers and their others, and in true Hunter Brother's fashion, not a whole lot goes as planned.

This series is one of my favorites and I was thrilled when the author offered me an ARC of this book to review. I devoured it, much like I did all the others in this series. If you've read the first four books, you'll know that each book was told from the wife/girlfriend/SO's point of view with the final chapter(s), told from the respective brother's point of view. I really looked forward to those chapters, to hear from the brothers. So when this book was going to be all from their POV, with a fresh, not regurgitated story, as sometimes happens when you write a book solely from another character's point of view in the same series, I knew I *had* to read it! I was *not* disappointed!

Thank you, LJ, for allowing me to read this one in advance. I can't wait to see where you go next!
